MANILA, Philippines — Millennials will be encouraged to participate and state their views on the recent changes in the environment in the upcoming environmental summit this January.

According to the Philippine Information Agency, the National Solid Waste Management Commission and the Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region, in partnership with the Quezon City government, will be holding the 3rd Ecological Solid Waste Management Exhibition and Environmental Summit on January 26-29 at the Quezon Memorial Circle in observance of the Zero Waste Month.

The event will be held to raise awareness on environmental protection, with a focus on millennials.

"What we will be doing is to encourage the participation of the so-called millennials in the event and gather their view regarding the current changes in the environment,” Dodgie Osabel of the EMB-NCR said.

The event will bring together leaders and practitioners in solid waste management, climate change, disaster risk prevention and mitigation and renewable energy, with Environment Secretary Gina Lopez and Sen. Loren Legarda among the invited speakers, PIA said.

It added that the event will be an opportunity for the Quezon City government to align its programs with various environmental advocacies presented by concerned government agencies and non-government organizations.

According to the PIA, the Quezon City government has already been credited with adopting strategies and initiatives contributing to the protection of the environment, aside from reducing the impact of climate change, and initiated the passage of the green building ordinance showcasing the green building initiative of the city.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista said that environment management will remain a critical foundation for the city's urban development strategies.
