MANILA, Philippines – After over a week of confinement due to pneumonia, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago was discharged from the Makati Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon, a statement released yesterday by the senator’s office said.
Santiago contracted pneumonia due to complications brought by her stage 4 lung cancer.
While under confinement, she thanked her supporters for praying for her speedy recovery. She said she is rethinking her political life.
“I was buoyed by the Facebook messages. I fully intend to recover, and I am rethinking the political life. It is very soul-devastating,” the senator said.
Santiago is on her last term as senator. She ran but lost to president-elect Rodrigo Duterte in the May presidential elections.
