Trillanes says P500-M check from San Miguel is fake

MANILA, Philippines — Vice presidential aspirant Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday released a document proving that the P500 million check supposedly issued to him is fake.

A photo containing a check received by Trillanes from San Miguel Corp. (SMC) recently went viral on social media.

Last week, SMC released a statement regarding the issue, stressing that the viral photo was a "fabrication and a blatant disinformation."

Trillanes also released a document from BDO which certifies that the SMC account where the supposed check came from does not exist.

"The Bank also certifies that it does not have any record of any amount being maintained by San Miguel Corporation with the Bank's Tandang Sora branch," Trillanes said in a statement posted on his Facebook account.

The senator earlier alleged Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of having an undeclared bank account with a balance of around P211 million, which the he did not include in his 2014 Statement of Assets and Liabilities.

Trillanes also released a record of Duterte's bank transactions and a list of his properties.

Duterte, however, claims that Trillanes is an "attack dog" unleashed by his detractors. In a rally in Zamboanga, the mayor called Trillanes an ingrate “askal” or “stray or street dog.”

“Pinag-aral sa PMA, tapos nagrebelde. Bastos…pinawalang-sala, pinakawalan. Tapos ginawang askal,” Duterte said.

The camp of Duterte is considering to file charges against Trillanes if proven that his exposés are false or illegally obtained.
