MANILA, Philippines - A freshman student of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City who has been missing since last month, has returned home on Monday night.

UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan confirmed in a text message to The STAR that freshman engineering student Ian Jasper Calalang has returned to their home in Cainta, Rizal.

"UP is relieved he returned home safety," said Tan.

No details were released as regards to what happened to the student.

The Philippine Collegian, the university's student publication, said the Calalang family has assured of the student's safety and has already informed the police of his return.

Calalang went missing on January 12 as he was about to enrol for his second semester at the university.

UP earlier said it has mobilized its security units to look for the student, while his family has sought help from the police to look for him.
