LTFRB urges LGUs to review tricycle fares
MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Sunday called on local government units (LGUs) to review their current tricycle fares after the rollback in jeep fares and taxi flag down rates.
“Just last Friday, the minimum jeep fare was reduced by 50 centavos, while the reduced flag down rate for taxi cabs are still on effect,” LTFRB board member Ariel Inton said.
“In view of public service, I appeal to all LGUs to review their current tricycle fares. Prices of gasoline is continuously going down, jeep fares and flag down rate for taxis are currently reduced", he added.
Inton said LGUs and not the LTFRB have the discretion on the matter of tricycle fares.
“LGUs have jurisdiction over tricycles since the effectivity of the Local Government Code. Perhaps it’s about time LGUs review tricycle fares considering the dramatic reduction of oil prices,” he said.
