Comelec wants to test one more vote counting machine

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) wants to try out one more vote counting machine before choosing which VCM to use in the May 2016 elections.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the agency is opening its doors early for those interested in showing their VCM to the commission.

“The Comelec is now accepting requests for VCM demonstrations,” Jimenez declared.

He said the Comelec is accepting requests for VCM demo early so that many could line up and be accommodated.

Interested groups or organizations should only send an email of their request to the Comelec at [email protected], Jimenez said.

He said the requesting party must include the name of person or organization, the proposed date of demonstration, venue and location as well as the full contact information.

According to Jimenez, full contact information is necessary to enable the Comelec to schedule the demonstration.

“The demo will be diverted to the closest unit possible, which means if you are requesting from Palawan, the request will be diverted to the Palawan office of Comelec and they will be the ones responsible for coordination with the requesting party,” Jimenez explained.

Jimenez said the individual or organization should also include in their email if they have a specific request.

“Let’s say you want us to bring extra ballots because your group is big, please indicate that as well,” he added.
