MANILA, Philippines — Veteran journalist Letty Jimenez-Magsanoc passed away on Christmas Eve.

Magsanoc, editor-in-chief and one of the founders of The Philippine Daily Inquirer, died at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City on Thursday.

“It is with deep sorrow that the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports the death of its esteemed editor in chief,” the Inquirer statement read.

“The country has lost a bedrock of journalism. And we, the inquirer family and her family in the profession, feel the incalculable loss of a well-loved leader, a mentor, a friend. We pray for strength in this hour of bereavement,” it added.

In June, Magsanoc was named Journalist of the Year by the Rotary Club Manila.
