5.2-magnitude quake jolts Ilocos Sur
MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-5.2 earthquake shook parts of Ilocos Sur last night but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, state seismologists said.
The quake ocurred at 8:44 p.m. with its epicenter located eight kilometers southeast of Lapog town in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor was reportedly felt at Intensity 5 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Intensity 4 in Vigan City, Santa, Sto Domingo and Cervantes, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan; and Intensity 3 in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur and Bangued, Abra.
Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks.
The quake had a depth of 47 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, the agency said.
Tectonic pertains to the movement of the earth’s crust.
