Leni calls for ceasefire between Mar, Duterte
MANILA, Philippines - Administration vice presidential candidate Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo yesterday called for a ceasefire between Liberal Party (LP) presidential bet Manuel Roxas II and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Robredo said she was saddened by the word war between Roxas and Duterte but stressed that the LP standard bearer was just defending himself from the mayor’s bullying.
“I felt that there was some bullying and the message that Roxas wants to send across is that we should not allow ourselves to be bullied that’s why he responded that way,” Robredo told reporters in Bulacan.
Duterte earlier threatened to slap Roxas in the face for his alleged failure to assist victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda. Roxas warned Duterte to make good his threat as he was willing to go to Davao City to be slapped.
This week, the argument turned worse with Roxas challenging Duterte to a fistfight. Duterte in turn challenged Roxas to a duel.
“I wish this would end because there are so many problems besetting our country. There are so many issues that need to be discussed,” Robredo said.
