'Nona' further weakens, 'Onyok' to make landfall by Friday

MANILA, Philippines  — Tropical depression Nona (international name Melor) is expected to further weaken into a low pressure area (LPA) within the next 24 hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Thursday.

At 4.am., Nona was located 60 kilometers (km) west of Iba, Zambales with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph).

PAGASA weather forecaster Buddy Javier said that the tropical depression has remained stationary 50 km west of Iba, Zambales.

Weather in most parts of Luzon is expected to gradually improve once Nona fades into a LPA.

Public storm warning signal no. 1 (30-60 kph expected in 36 hours) is still hoisted over Pangasinan and Zambales.

Meanwhile, tropical depression Onyok was located 700 km east northeast of Mati City, Davao Oriental at 4 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph. It is likely to move west at 15 kph.

Onyok is expected to make landfall over the Caraga region by Friday afternoon and will affect the eastern section of Mindanao.
