'Nona' makes landfall in Samar
MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Nona (international name Melor) has made landfall in Samar, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Monday.
PAGASA is expecting a second landfall of the typhoon in Sorsogon this evening.
At 10 a.m., Nona was located 85 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar with maximum winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph. It is likely to move west at 17 kph.

The weather bureau warned that flash floods and landslides are possible in areas under signals 2 and 3. Storm surges of up to 4 meters are also expected in the areas.
"Estimated rainfall amount is from heavy to at times intense within the 300 km diameter of the typhoon," PAGASA said.
The typhoon is expected to leave landmass by Wednesday.
