'Marilyn' further weakens as it heads outside PAR

MANILA, Philippines — State weather bureau PAGASA on Wednesday announced that typhoon "Marilyn" (international name In-Fa) has weakened into a severe tropical storm.

The typhoon is expected to dissipate due to the northeast monsoon or "amihan" as it moves closer to the eastern boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility.

At 4 a.m., the typhoon was located 1,390 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum winds of 105 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 135 kph. It is likely to move northeast at 11 kph.

The weather agency assured that Marilyn has a slim chance to re-curve or return to the country once it exits.

The typhoon is not directly affecting the country and no storm warning signal is raised in any part of the country.

"Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Bicol region, eastern Visayas and the province of Quezon while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains is expected over Cagayan region," PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
