PAGASA: 3 more typhoons before yearend

Patricia Lourdes Viray - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines may experience up to three more typhoons before the end of the year, according to weather bureau PAGASA.

However, PAGASA said that it is unclear whether the upcoming typhoon can alleviate the effects of the ongoing El Niño situation in the country.

PAGASA weather forecaster Shelly Ignacio said that it would depend if the typhoons will make landfall.

The areas that the typhoons will affect and the amount of rain will also be a factor if they will have an effect on the El Niño.

The effects of the El Niño will be felt until June. On the other hand, two to eight typhoons are forecasted to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the first half of 2016.

Typhoon "Lando," which has weakened into a low pressure area, has damaged more than P7 billion worth of agriculture and infrastructure.

The death toll from the typhoon reached 54 while 78 others were reported injured.
