'Lando' weakens further, 17 areas still under warning signal
MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon "Lando" (international name "Koppu") has weakened into a tropical storm may become a low pressure area before the exiting the Philippine area of responsibility, weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday.
At 10 a.m., Lando was located 125 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 100 kph.
It is likely to move northeast at 4 kph toward Calayan and Babuyan group of islands.
Public storm warning signals are still raised in the following areas:

- Ilocos Sur
- Apayao
- Abra
- Batanes
- Northern Cagayan
- Calayan
- Babuyan
Signal no. 1
- La Union
- Pangasinan
- Kalinga
- Mt. Province
- Ifugao
- Benguet
- Nueva Vizcaya
- Isabela
- rest of Cagayan
The weather bureau warned that occasional rains and gusty winds will be experienced in provinces under storm warning signals and alerted residents in low lying and mountainous areas of said areas against possible flash floods and landslides.
"Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy to at times intense within the 650-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm," PAGASA said.
PAGASA forecast track of Tropical Storm Lando as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
The tropical storm is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, President Benigno Aquino III denied reports that government reports in areas affected by Lando have been slow.
