Classes suspended in Metro, Central Luzon today

MANILA, Philippines - Several local government units in Central Luzon and Metro Manila ordered the suspension of classes today due to expected inclement weather brought by Typhoon Lando (international name Koppu).

Classes in all levels, both public and private, are suspended in Manila, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Pasig, Navotas, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Malabon, Pasay and Taguig.

In Quezon City, only classes in pre-school to high school are suspended today.

Classes in all levels are also suspended today in Pampanga and Ilagan City, Isabela.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Metro Manila, Pampanga and Isabela remained under storm warning signal No. 2 as of 11 a.m. yesterday.

After making landfall over Casiguran, Aurora at 1 a.m. yesterday, Lando also made its presence felt in Metro Manila.

Several trees were uprooted in Manila and Quezon City due to strong winds.

As per Executive Order No. 66, signed by President Aquino on Jan. 9, 2012, classes shall be automatically suspended, without need for any announcement from the school or Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education in the following situations:

Classes at the pre-school level shall be automatically cancelled or suspended in areas under signal No. 1.

Classes at the pre-school, elementary and secondary levels shall be automatically cancelled or suspended in areas where signal No. 2 is raised.

Classes at pre-school, elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels, in the affected area, including graduate school, as well as work in all government offices, shall be automatically cancelled or suspended in areas under signal No. 3.

In the absence of typhoon signal warnings, the cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices may be implemented by local chief executives, the order said.
