MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED 2:55 p.m.) - Tropical storm with international name "Koppu" entered the Philippine area of responsibility at 2 p.m., weather bureau PAGASA said.
The tropical storm was given the local name "Lando," the 12th tropical cyclone to enter PAR this year.
At 2 p.m., it was located 1,440 kilometers east of Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 80 kph. It is likely to move west at 20 kph.
PAGASA said that the tropical storm has a high chance to make landfall over northern Luzon if it maintains speed and movement. It will bring rains in some parts of Luzon.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will continue to affect northern Luzon.
"Cloudy skies with light rains will be experienced over Cordillera and Ilocos region while light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Cagayan valley, Bicol region and the provinces of Aurora, Quezon and Samar," PAGASA said.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.
Coastal waters in Luzon and eastern Visayas will be moderate to rough due to moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast.
