MANILA, Philippines - Don’t pick your nose, scratch your body in public or text while on duty.

The leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) issued these reminders to all policemen, 95 percent of whom are now deployed on the streets.

Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo Jr., PNP deputy chief for administration, said policemen should always keep a respectable and clean appearance.

At the Oplan Lambat Sibat meeting yesterday, Garbo stressed the need for policemen to maintain good personal hygiene and good grooming to earn the respect of the public.

Like members of the Highway Patrol Group deployed on EDSA, he said policemen should always be snappy.

Garbo directed police chiefs to monitor the “Tamang Bihis,” proper decorum and efficiency of their men. “I want to see the positive results or you will be relieved from your post,” he said.

During his stint as chief of the National Capital Regional Police Office, Garbo inspected police stations to check if his orders were followed.

He commended best-performing police stations and personnel and disciplined non-performing police officers.

A desk officer caught sleeping at a police precinct in Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon while a riot was ongoing was ordered removed from his post.

Police Officer 2 Luis Alojacin and Police Community Precinct 8 commander Insp. Joseph Donaldo were reassigned to the Malabon police’s administrative holding unit and to undergo 30 days of “Balik sa Kampo” training.
