Filipino-owned school is 1st ABET-accredited private university in Bahrain

MANILA, Philippines - AMA International University-Bahrain (AMAIUB) gained exemplary global recognition as it garners ABET-accreditation.

AMAIUB was founded in 2002 by the Philippines’s "father of computer education," Ambassador Amable R. Aguiluz V. The university is a member of AMA Education System which is the largest educational network in Asia.

ABET is the highest accrediting body in applied sciences, engineering, computing and technology. Its accreditors are composed of professors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Princeton University, Cornell University and Ohio University, among others.

The ABET accreditation is an assurance to the academic community that the university’s programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields in innovation and  emerging technologies. It also positions AMAIUB as one of the internationally recognized universities that fosters the “best practices” in education and underscores “learning outcomes” instead of “teaching inputs.”

AMAIUB’s ABET-accredited degree programs include Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering (BSIE), and Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering (BSME). The BSCS program was granted re-accreditation by the ABET Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) for four years (2015-2019).

Moreover, the BSIE and BSME programs were accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET for six years (2015-2021), plus two years retroactive from 2013. In all, both the engineering programs were given eight years total accreditation, which is the maximum duration that a program could obtain.

Aside from the ABET accreditation, AMAIUB’s business programs, the Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics and Bachelor of Science in International Studies, are accredited by European Council for Business Education (ECBE). ECBE is an international organization that ensures that its accredited members satisfy the requirements of the European Higher Education set out in the Bologna Process and other European standards.
