Binay performance, trust ratings plunge – Pulse
MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay suffered significant declines in his approval and trust ratings in the third quarter survey of Pulse Asia, while scores of the other top government officials, including President Aquino, hardly moved.
Satisfaction with Binay’s performance dropped to 43 percent in September from 58 percent in June based on Pulse Asia’s Ulat ng Bayan national survey.
The survey was taken from Sept. 8 to 14, using face-to-face interviews of 2,400 representative adults 18 years old and above.
The Vice President’s trust rating also plunged from 57 percent in June to 39 percent in September.
The non-commissioned survey was conducted after Binay resigned from the Aquino Cabinet and started attacking the Aquino administration.
The Vice President’s ratings in latest presidential surveys conducted by Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations have also continued to drop.
Meanwhile, public satisfaction with Aquino’s performance remained at 54 percent in September, while his trust rating dropped by a point to 49 percent.
Senate President Franklin Drilon’s performance rating went up a point to 50 percent, while his trust score increased by two points to 47 percent.
Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. registered a two-point and one-point increase in his latest approval and trust ratings at 32 percent and 29 percent, respectively.
Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, meanwhile, experienced a two-point drop in her satisfaction rating and a one-point decline in her trust rating in September, now at 29 percent and 26 percent, respectively.
Pulse Asia said the President obtained virtually the same approval, indecision and disapproval scores in June and September 2015.
The only notable changes at this time as far as presidential performance ratings are concerned, according to Pulse Asia, are the increase in his approval rating in the Visayas (15 percentage points) and the decline in the level of indecision toward presidential performance also in the Visayas (-13 percentage points).
As for the Vice President, he experienced a drop in his national approval score (-15 percentage points) as well as an increase in his overall disapproval and indecision ratings (8 and 7 percentage points, respectively).
Binay’s approval ratings also went down in all geographic areas (-11 to -22 percentage points) and in Classes D and E (-12 to -21 percentage points), Pulse Asia noted.
On the other hand, criticism for vice-presidential performance became more pronounced in the Visayas and Class E (both at 13 percentage points), it said.
Drilon’s national indecision figure declined from June to September 2015 (-6 percentage points) while his overall approval and disapproval ratings remain basically unchanged, the pollster said.
The Senate president enjoyed an improvement in his approval rating and a decrease in the level of ambivalence toward his work among Visayans (20 and -19 percentage points, respectively) as well as a decline in his indecision rating in Class D (-8 percentage points).
Meanwhile, indecision toward the performance of Belmonte in the national level eased between June and September 2015 (-6 percentage points). Additionally, levels of ambivalence on the matter decreased in the Visayas (-12 percentage points) and Class E (-13 percentage points).
Belmonte registered an improvement in his approval rating in the Visayas (13 percentage points).
Sereno’s overall indecision figure also declined in September (-6 percentage points). Likewise, ambivalence concerning the latter’s quarterly performance became less pronounced in Mindanao (-16 percentage points).
The Chief Justice experienced an increase in her disapproval rating among Mindanaoans (12 percentage points).
With regard to Filipinos’ sentiments concerning the trustworthiness of these officials, Pulse Asia said the only significant changes at the national level are the decline in the trust rating of the Vice President (-18 percentage points) and the rise in his distrust and indecision scores (8 and 9 percentage points, respectively) and decrease in the indecision figure of Drilon (-7 percentage points).
Across geographic areas and socio-economic classes, Aquino’s trust rating went up in the Visayas (13 percentage points).
Those expressing trust in Binay eroded in most geographic areas and socio-economic classes (-14 to -22 and -15 to -22 percentage points, respectively) while distrust in him became more manifest in the Visayas (14 percentage points) and Classes D and E (8 and 13 percentage points, respectively).
Ambivalence on the matter of trusting or distrusting the Vice President increased in the rest of Luzon (13 percentage points) and Class D (9 percentage points).
Drilon registered a gain in his trust rating among Visayans (20 percentage points) and a decline in his indecision ratings in the Visayas and Mindanao (-17 and -13 percentage points, respectively).
The trust ratings of Belmonte and Sereno fell in Metro Manila (-13 and -10 percentage points, respectively), while their indecision scores decreased in Mindanao (-11 and -12 percentage points, respectively).
