Immigration e-counters installed at NAIA
MANILA, Philippines - The government has put up electronic counters at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to speed up the immigration processing of travelers.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima led yesterday the launch of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) information system e-counters, which she said was designed to simplify the arrival and departure process for the convenience of passengers at the NAIA Terminal 3.
Although only one counter was used yesterday, the terminal will have at least 10 units once the entire system is in place. The government aims to have 500 operational units in all Philippine air and sea ports.
“The country joins the ranks of the global community with e-counters and e-gates to seamlessly address the increase in travelers in recent years, given the capacity constraints,” De Lima said.
De Lima, who has administrative supervision over the BI, said the latest project would allow the processing of passenger documents in just about a minute per person. – With Edu Punay
