Good weather seen in next few days

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A part from isolated thunderstorms, good weather is expected to prevail in most parts of the country in the next days after Typhoon Jenny (international name Dujuan) exited the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country today until Monday.

According to PAGASA, Jenny weakened further after crossing northern Taiwan Monday night and was moving towards southeastern China as of yesterday morning.

As of 4 a.m. yesterday, the eye of Jenny was located at 425 kilometers north- northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, packing winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

It was forecast to move west-northwest at 19 kph.

Jenny was projected to be at 830 km northwest of Itbayat this morning.

PAGASA, however, continued to advise the public yesterday not to venture out to the seaboards of Northern Luzon due to big waves generated by Jenny and the southwest monsoon.

Light to moderate rains due to the southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by Jenny, were still expected over the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon) and the provinces of Mindoro and Palawan yesterday.

Jenny was the 10th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and the only cyclone that entered the country this month.

PAGASA earlier said the Philippines normally experiences an average of two to four tropical cyclones in September.

The weather agency blamed the fewer tropical cyclones, as well as the weak southwest monsoon, on the prevailing El Niño phenomenon.
