LP to announce VP, Senate bets tomorrow
MANILA, Philippines - The Liberal Party (LP) is expected to announce its vice presidential candidate and senatorial lineup during a meeting at its Balay headquarters in Quezon City tomorrow.
LP vice chairman and Senate President Franklin Drilon said yesterday President Aquino, as chairman of the party, would witness the presentation of the candidates.
“The President will preside over the business meeting of the National Executive Council. After the business meeting, we will have the presentation of the presidential and vice presidential candidates,” Drilon told reporters.
LP presidential bet Manuel Roxas II kept mum on whether Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo would be his running mate.
“The update I will give about our running mate is very good news. The right time will come,” Roxas said on the sidelines of the National Unity Party (NUP) convention in Pasay yesterday.
Drilon hinted that Roxas has a running mate.
Still no for Leni
It’s still no for Robredo on the invitation of the LP to be the administration vice presidential candidate for the 2016 elections.
Robredo said she is still not inclined to be the running mate of Roxas as she has to take care of her three children, who remain opposed to her running for higher office.
“I hope they (LP leaders) will understand – we’re talking about family – I’m a mother and I can’t just turn my back on my children,” Robredo said.
She said a leader cannot serve well if his or her family situation is problematic.
Flattery or mockery?
Meanwhile, Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro delivered what could be the most unusual introduction to a guest speaker and presidential candidate during the convention.
Castro introduced LP presidential candidate and fellow Capizeño Manuel Roxas II as an “aswang,” a Filipino mythical creature that feeds on human flesh.
His introduction was premised on the belief that vampire-like creatures abound in their home province. – Alexis Romero, Paolo Romero
