MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Jenny accelerated as it started to move away from the Philippine area of responsibility.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the eye of the typhoon was estimated at 786 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

It packed maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

The typhoon was forecast to move northwest at 15 kph, slightly faster than its previous movement.

PAGASA said no public storm warning signal is raised in any part of the country, although it will intensify the southwest monsoon that is expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Palawan, Western Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

“Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 600-km diameter of the typhoon,” the weather bureau said.

“Fisherfolk are advised not to venture out to the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao,” it added.

A thunderstorm warning was also raised in parts of Capiz, Negros Occidental, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Quezon, Pampanga and Zambales.

“Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms is expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region  and the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Luzon,” the weather bureau added.
