MANILA, Philippines - The "Million People March" which seeks to convince Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to run as president in the 2016 elections is all set on Saturday.
Various groups from all parts of the country will join the said gathering at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
Champions for Rody Duterte for President Movement spokesperson Paula Alvarez said in an interview with ABS-CBN News said that they are hopeful that the event would convince the Davao City official to change his plans of retiring from public office.
"Ang sinasabi po niya, hindi niya po kaya na i-solve ang problema ng buong Pilipinas. Ang gusto po sana naming sabihin kay Mayor, hindi naman po naming hinihingi na kayo lang ang mag-solusyon sa problema ng buong Pilipinas," Alvarez said.
Duterte earlier called on his supporters to halt the event urging him to run for president in 2016.
“They request for me to run for president. I would like you to do me a favor this time. Pakisabi lang sa lahat huwag nilang gawin sana iyan kasi it would complicate matters. Baka sabihin ng tao atras-abante ako,” Duterte said.
The Davao City mayor ranked fourth in the latest Pulse Asia presidential survey with 15 percent.
