Noy declares Sept. 25 a regular holiday for Eid’l Adha
MANILA, Philippines - There will be another long weekend at the end of the month.
President Aquino signed Proclamation 1128 yesterday declaring Sept. 25, the last Friday of September, a regular holiday nationwide in observance of the annual Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice for Muslims.
The proclamation was based on Republic Act 9849, which provides that Eid’l Adha shall be celebrated as a national holiday, though a movable date.
The holiday was declared upon the recommendation of the National Commission for Muslim Filipinos, based on the Islamic calendar and the declaration by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious authority, amending its earlier recommendation to observe Eid’l Adha on Sept. 24.
Eid’l Adha is one of Islam’s two major festivals celebrated by 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide.
It is celebrated before the end of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Eid’l Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, is celebrated on the 10th day of the 12th Islamic month.
