LPA brings rain in Metro Manila

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Several areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience light to moderate rains until tomorrow due to a low-pressure area (LPA) off Camarines Norte, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) spotted the LPA at 140 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 p.m. yesterday.

PAGASA weather forecaster Shaira Nonot said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, but it will continue to bring rains over Luzon in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol and the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

Nonot said the LPA is unlikely to intensify into a cyclone as it is already near the landmass.

She also noted that two to four cyclones are predicted to enter the Philippine area of responsibility next month.
