MANILA, Philippines - A typhoon with international name "Goni" is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

At 4 a.m., the typhoon was located 1,600 kilometers (km) east of Luzon. It will be locally named "Ineng" once it enters PAR.

The typhoon packs maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 205 kph. It is likely to move west northwest at 25 kph, the weather bureau  said.

PAGASA said that the typhoon's effect will not be felt until Wednesday but it will enhance the southwest monsoon or "habagat."

Visayas and Mindanao will experience rains brought by the habagat. Meanwhile, Luzon will experience rains by Thursday until weekend.

The typhoon is likely to make landfall in Batanes or in Calayan by Friday, the weather bureau said.

On the other hand, PAGASA is monitoring another typhoon with international name "Atsani."

It was located 3,800 km east of Luzon and has a slim chance to enter PAR. It is moving towards Japan and will locally be named "Jenny" once it enters the country.
