Poe's camp sees disqualification case as harassment
MANILA, Philippines - The camp of Sen. Grace Poe sees the disqualification case filed against her as harassment and an insult to the senator.
Losing 2013 senatorial candidate Rizalito David on Monday filed a complaint against Poe before the Commission on Elections, accusing her of distorting facts in her certificate of candidacy when she ran for senator.
"Clearly, the complainant is fishing for a forum to air his baseless accusations," George Garcia, the legal counsel of Poe, said in a statement.
Garcia stressed that the senator is a natural-born Filipino and that there was no misrepresentation in her certificate of candidacy.
"Masyado nilang inaapi si Sen. Grace Poe. Ganyang-ganyan din ginawa nila sa tatay nya. Lubha nilang minamaliit ang talino at pang-unawa ng Pilipino," the lawyer said.
Poe's counsel remains confident that the court will rule in their favor.
"Nakahanda kaming sumagot at pabulaanan ang mga kasinungalingang kanilang ibinabato," Garcia added.
On August 7, David has filed a similar petition before the Senate Electoral Tribunal, seeking to unseat Poe.
