NP rejects alliance with UNA

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Philippines – The Nacionalista Party (NP) has closed the door on any alliance with the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay because of corruption issues.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, NP secretary general, said his party is open to any kind of coalition with other dominant political parties as long as the issue is not about corruption.

“NP is open for coalition with other parties but I think our door is already closed to VP Binay because of corruption issues. As long as corruption is not the issue, we are ready to have dialogue with other parties,” Cayetano said after attending the activity of students’ organization at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University here Friday.

Cayetano, a member of the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee, said the hearing of the corruption issues against the Binays would continue next week along with other new issues that would be brought out by their witnesses.

“Let the witnesses disclose them (issues) and I think these are still connected with the auditing of funds in Makati and the overpriced buildings,” he said.

Cayetano said his priority for the 2016 elections is to run for the presidency, and if he wins, he would pursue his visions and programs to uplift the lives of Filipinos.

He said, however, that he is also open to running for the vice presidency as long as the role for his position, again if he wins, would be clarified by his running mate.
