Population Census 2015 kicks off

Ted P. Torres - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Starting this month, over 90,000 personnel of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will be going door-to-door in all 42,028 barangays nationwide for the collection of census data.

PSA deputy national statistician Josie Perez said the conduct of the Population Census 2015 is important for national development, as it will serve as a critical basis for sound formulation of policies and programs.

“On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the PSA will hold a motorcade to jumpstart PopCen 2015. The actual data collection starts on August 10,” Perez said.

Perez said they aim to conclude the entire process of interviews in less than 30 working days, with a rough ratio of one interviewer for every 300 to 400 households.

The 2015 census, a complete enumeration of households in the country, is designed as an inventory of the country’s population. It will collect and collate information about some characteristics of the population such as age, sex, marital status and educational attainment.

The census will provide government executives, policy and decision makers, and planners with population data, especially updated population counts of all barangays in the country, on which to base their social and economic development plans, policies and programs.

Data will be used for research and academic institutions in studying population, geographic distribution and other related disciplines as bases in preparing population projections at the national and sub-national levels.
