MANILA, Philippines - The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay and the newly formed coalition of Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) and Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka (PMM) will hold preliminary talks on strategies for next year’s elections.
The initial agenda is how to deal with possible electronic cheating through the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines, KBL president Vicente Millora told The STAR.
“There are serious warnings about the use of PCOS, and this early we have to plot our political game plans,” he said.
He and PMM head Jose Malvar Villegas are set to meet with a top UNA leader to discuss a possible alliance in the May elections, Millora said.
The possible presidential and vice presidential tandem of Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Binay will also be discussed in the meeting, a source told The STAR.
The KBL-PMM coalition will insist that Binay be the running mate of Marcos, the source added.
However, Millora said a Marcos-Binay tandem is a remote possibility.
Binay has already declared his presidential bid, he added.
Millora said the KBL-PMM coalition is optimistic that Marcos would accept their nomination when the filing of certificate of candidacy starts in October.
“We are certain Sen. Marcos will accept our nomination,” he said. “Consultations are now ongoing with other groups that are supporting his presidential candidacy.”
“Kay Bongbong Lang (KBL) for President in the 2016 election is the initial battle cry of the new KBL-PMM coalition, Millora said.
