Pagasa to protesters: Bring umbrellas

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau has advised protesters and other groups staging activities in open areas today, coinciding with the sixth and last State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Aquino, to bring umbrellas due to expected isolated thunderstorms.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday warned of the possibility of isolated heavy rains in Metro Manila due to thunderstorms especially in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said the low pressure area (LPA), which drenched Northern Luzon in the past days, was spotted at 575 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 4 p.m. yesterday.

But the LPA has little chance of intensifying into a cyclone, it said.

The state weather bureau said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the whole archipelago.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, it said.

Aside from the LPA, no other weather disturbance was spotted by PAGASA as of yesterday afternoon.
