Pacman still undecided on Senate run

CABADBARAN CITY, Philippines  — Philippine boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao admitted Saturday night that he was still undecided if he would run for senator in next year’s elections, claiming he was still waiting for a sign from God.

“Frankly from scale 1 to 100, it’s still 50-50 in my chances to run for senator in 2016 although I must admit I have plans… but it will all depend on the plans and wishes of our creator for me,” Pacquiao told The STAR in an interview at the house of Cabadbaran City Mayor Dale Corvera.

Pacquiao said the problem is not how to campaign and win the 2016 elections but how he could contribute in the Senate by infusing Christian values if he is lucky enough to be elected as senator in 2016.

He said that from time to time he  prays and seeks God’s guidance on whether to run in the 2016 senatorial derby.

Corvera hosted a dinner for Pacquiao after a prayer rally dubbed as “The Word for Everyone.”

The event, organized by Corvera and local pastors, was held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Caraga State University Cabadbaran campus.

Rev. Pastor Cyrus Olaer of the Living Word Church said at least 5,000 persons attended the prayer rally.

“Although majority who attended were members from different Christian churches not only from Cabadbaran but other places like Butuan City and nearby Agusan del Norte towns, they were surprised when some people we don’t know came from different places and attended the worship session with Rep. Pacquiao,” Corvera said.

Pacquiao also attended a joint ministerial fellowship and Sunday worship held yesterday at the jampacked Cabadbaran City gym.
