CHR looks into alleged detention of INC members

The Commission on Human Rights can conduct motu propio (on its own) investigation on reports of rights violations and abuses.

MANILA, Philippines - Investigators from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Friday went to the residence of the brother of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) executive minister Eduardo Manalo in Quezon City after receiving reports that some members of the household and supporters are being detained.

Three probers from the CHR-National Capital Region arrived at the Manalo residence in Tandang Sora, Quezon City to look into some reports that Eduardo's brother, Felix Nathaniel Manalo and two other siblings are being held detained inside the house.

Some supporters are also with the Manalos inside the house, reports said.

The CHR investigators, however, were not allowed to enter the premises. Policemen were not also allowed to enter the Manalo house.

After several minutes, the CHR probers pulled out from the area, saying that they will wait for the status report of the police officers regarding the situation of the people inside the house.
