‘Ate Vi not aspiring for higher post’

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto is not likely to change her mind not to run for higher office next year, her husband Sen. Ralph Recto said yesterday.

“She is not ambitious,” Recto told reporters. “She does not aspire for any higher position, she’s not interested.”

Recto made the remarks amid rumors that his popular wife is being wooed by the administration and the opposition United Nationalist Alliance to be vice presidential candidate in 2016.

Recto, however, said his wife is qualified to be a vice president and president, considering her long stint in government – nine years as mayor of Lipa City and nine years as governor – and is a Lingkod Bayan awardee.

“Maybe she’ll be interested (to run as president) if I’ll be her running mate,” Recto joked.
