WATCH: The man who will be crucified for 29th time
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - Signboard maker Ruben Enaje of Barangay San Pedro Cutud will be nailed to the cross for the 29th time this afternoon.
Enaje will continue reenacting the crucifixion of Christ since he still has no qualified successor.
He said portraying the Lord in the yearly Lenten rites here entails a responsibility to their community.
"Kapag gumaganap ka ng Kristo, may responsibilidad ka sa ating barangay. Kailangan 'yung portrayal mo sa ating panginoong Hesus, kailangan hindi ka gagawa ng anumang masama sa iyong kapwa," Enaje said in an interview.
Enaje started the first nine years of his Lenten vow or "panata" in 1986 to thank God for letting him survive a high fall during a construction work.
He continued doing it for nine more years, hoping that his daughter, Ejay, would be cured of asthma.
In the next nine years of his vow, Enaje's prayers were for his wife, Juanita, who had a lump on her jaw.
For this year, Enaje will be praying for the relatives of the 44 slain Special Action Force commandos and for government officials, particularly, President Aquino.

After nearly three decades, the 54-year-old Enaje wants to retire as his body can no longer bear the pain of crucifixion.
"Yung sakit ng palad sa kamay, lalo na dito sa balikat, yung bigat ng krus," said Enaje, referring to the wooden cross he will be carrying that weighs more than 30 kilos.
