New COA chief is from Aquino's office
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino has appointed one of his legal affairs officials as new Commission on Audit (COA) chairperson, Malacañang announced Wednesday.
"We are pleased to announce that President Aquino has appointed Atty. Michael G. Aguinaldo as Chairman of the Commission on Audit," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a statement.
Valte said Aguinaldo's appointment was made on Tuesday.
Aguinaldo replaced former COA Chair Maria Gracia Pulido Tan whose term ended on February 2.
He has been the deputy executive secretary of the legal affairs of the Office of the President since May 2011.
Before joining the government in 2011, Aguinaldo was also a partner and member of the executive committee of the Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & de los Angeles.
