Angara: Wipe out Marwan's legacy
MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara suggested that the "lethal legacy" of Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir, alias Marwan, in Mindanao should be wiped out.
The senator said that Marwan's legacy of "technology transfer" when he moved from one rebel camp to another should be wiped out to prevent more deaths in Mindanao.
”If it is true that there is an arms manufacturing factory in Mindanao, whether it’s by Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) or Abu Sayyaf, it should be wiped out,” Angara said.
During one of the Senate hearings on the Mamasapano incident, lead government peace negotiator Prof. Miriam Coronel-Ferrer admitted that there were reports of the existence of an improvised explosive device facility owned by BIFF.
Angara noted that the Moro Islamic Liberation Front running a weapons factory is a violation of cease-fire agreement.
“If we are now nearing the arms decommissioning phase, then it will be for naught if one group will be increasing its arms inventory in anticipation of the group giving up of its weapons," Angara said.
Angara added that the "arm race in the South" should be stopped.
