Bureau of Customs confiscates used clothing from South Korea

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The Philippine government has seized illegal imported used clothes worth P21 million ($476,190), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Friday.

The five container vans of used clothes arrived late last year from Inchon, South Korea, said the BOC.

Importers of the products declared them as blankets, bed sheets and caps and not as used clothes.

The smuggling attempt was foiled on the basis of alert orders issued by the BOC's Enforcement Group after receiving information about the shipments.

The importers face violation of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines and Republic Act No. 4653 banning the importation of used clothing.
