Pinoy pleads guilty to triple murder

Joseph Lariosa - The Philippine Star

CHICAGO – A Filipino, alleged to be an illegal alien, was sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty last Feb. 17 to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder before the start of his jury trial.

Igmidio “Roger” Mista, 34, was accused of killing a police officer, a US Army veteran and a musician, and of causing serious injury to the policeman’s cousin when he went on a shooting rampage at the Last Call Bar in Fremont, Ohio in March last year.

Judge Barbara Ansted of the Common Pleas Court in Ohio sentenced Mista to serve 44 years before he is eligible for parole. He would be 78 by the time he is released.

Mista’s lawyer, David Klucas, could not be reached for comment.

Killed were Andy Chavez, an off-duty police officer from Elmore, Ohio, who was celebrating his 26th birthday on the night of the murder; Daniel Ramirez, 24, Army veteran; and Ramiro Sanchez, 28, bar musician.
