Pag-IBIG's Berberabe possible Binay running mate in 2016

MANILA, Philippines - Makati Mayor Erwin Jejomar "Junjun" Binay Jr. on Wednesday maintained that his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, has not yet chosen his running mate for the 2016 elections.

"Anything's possible at this point. Pwede kahit sino kasi hindi pa nakapamili," Mayor Binay said in a television interview.

The Makati mayor mentioned that his father wants a running mate from the business sector who is familiar with the country's economy.

Mayor Binay cited Pag-IBIG Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG) president and chief executive officer Darlene Marie Berberabe as a possible running mate for his father.

"She's firm, she knows what she's talking about," Mayor Binay commented on Berberabe.

Sen. Grace Poe, one of the top choice as the country's next president, is also a possible running mate for Vice President Binay.

The younger Binay suggested that there might be a coalition between the United Nationalist Alliance and the Liberal Party if Binay runs as president together with Poe as vice president.

"It might be good for the country to have an alliance. For the sake of this country bawasan na rin natin ang pulitika," Mayor Binay said.

Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero and businessman Manny Pangilinan were also mentioned as possible running mates for the older Binay.

The Makati Mayor denied claims that his father is sick and undergoing dialysis.

"He's really strong, he's very fit," Mayor Binay said.

Vice President Binay is still the leading the list of possible presidential candidates for the 2016 elections, according to a recent survey.
