MANILA, Philippines - Three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were abducted in Libya, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday night.

The three OFWs were among seven foreigners abducted by unidentified men.

"The DFA and the Philippine Embassy in Libya are monitoring the situation and coordinating closely with the Sogepi SRL Italy Company, employer of the Filipinos, in ensuring their well-being and safe return," the DFA statement read.

The DFA did not provide further details regarding the incident.

The Philippine government earlier enforced mandatory evacuation for OFWs based in Libya due to the ongoing civil unrest in the country

Ten people were killed and at least one Filipino was hurt when gunmen attacked a luxury hotel in Libya last January.
