MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas on Monday urged various sectors calling for an independent probe on the Mamasapano incident to give the Philippine National Police's Board of Inquiry (BOI) a chance.
Roxas said he is also wants explanations and answers, just like the families, friends and batchmates of the 44 Special Action Force commandos who died in the clash.
"Like all of you, I am very interested to know the results of the investigation of the Board of Inquiry for us to know the truth. Let us patiently wait for the report and see the findings of the board," Roxas said.
The BOI, which was formed last week, tapped Deputy Director and Officer-in-Charge Leonardo Espina, Police Director Edgardo Ingking of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao, and Chief Superintendent Catalino Rodrigo of the Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development to dig into the lapses of the operations.
The BOI is expected to determine and suggest solution to possible future doctrinal, tactical and operational issues.
Roxas said the BOI probe will be truthful and transparent and will be finished under a clear timeline.
"To show respect to those who lost their loved ones in the incident, we will make sure that the board will be transparent and truthful," Roxas said.
