Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Two soldiers were wounded when the Abu Sayyaf ambushed a convoy of army troops in Patikul, Sulu yesterday.

Ensign Chester Ramos, public information officer of Joint Task Group Zambasulta, said the convoy came under attack in Barangay Bungkaong.

Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela said the convoy was carrying troops of the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Group Sulu when they were attacked at Sitio Panding on their way to Jolo.

Muyuela added the troops were able to repulse the attack and forced the militants to retreat.

She said the wounded soldiers were immediately evacuated to the military trauma hospital for treatment.

“The wounded soldiers are now in stable condition,” Muyuela said.
