(UPDATE) At least 2 killed in Cotabato blast

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Two persons were killed on the spot today in an explosion in North Cotabato, the military said.

Joanne Petinglay, spokesperson of AFP's 6th Division, said the explosion occurred at around 6:11 p.m. local time near the Jovini Solo convenient store along Manuel L. Quezon street in Poblacion Village of Pikit town in North Cotabato.

Citing initial information, Petinglay said the fatalities were riding a motorcycle when the explosion occurred.

"Two unidentified personnel died on the spot while riding a motorcycle ... Allegedly, the said persons were carrying the said explosive," said Petinglay.

It was not immediately clear what type of bomb exploded or the group affiliation of the fatalities.
