MANILA, Philippines - Social media sites Facebook and Instagram went down Tuesday afternoon, sending users to complain on microblogging site Twitter.

As of this posting, #facebookdown is the top worldwide trend on Twitter. Instagram is also unavailable.

Facebook bought the photo sharing service Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion.
