Bacoor officials post greetings for Pope despite Palace reminders

Patricia Lourdes Viray - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Some local government officials seem to have overlooked Malacañang's reminder not to use the visit of Pope Francis for publicity.

A Facebook user named Jerico Javier posted photos of "Welcome Pope Francis" tarpaulins with names of politicians in Bacoor City, Cavite.

Facebook user Jerico Javier posted photos of welcome greetings for Pope Francis in Bacoor City.

"Greetings from the people of the City of Bacoor, led by Mayor Strike B. Revilla, Cong. Lani Mercado Revilla, Vice Mayor Karen Sarino Evaristo and Sangguniang Lungsod," the advertisement read.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. earlier appealed to politicians and private companies not use the Roman Pontiff's visit to get publicity.

"'Yung ibang mag naghahangad na maging prominente din ang pagkakilala sa kanila, mas mainiam siguro na pumili nalang sila ng ibang okasyon," Coloma said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

Pope Francis is scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on Thursday afternoon. The Pope is set to meet with government and church officials and some families and victims of typhoon Yolanda in Leyte.
