(UPDATE) 2 killed, 15 others injured in blast near Capiz school

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - A man and a child were killed while 15 others were injured in an explosion today near an elementary school in Capiz, an official said.

Espridion Pelaez, a spokesman of Capiz provincial disaster risk reduction and management office, said initial reports showed the explosion occurred around 12 noon near the Lantangan Elementary School in Pontevedra town.

Pelaez said the man killed in the incident appeared to be the bomb courier.  

He said the two fatalities, whose names were not immediately available, were declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

"Many of the injured are pupils because it happened near as school," said Pelaez.

The local police is still determining the circumstances of the explosion and the type of the bomb that went off, he added.
