Filipino nurse sacked for anti-Singapore comments

MANILA, Philippines — A hospital in Singapore fired a Filipino nurse accused of posting anti-Singaporean remarks on his Facebook page that subsequently went viral.

The Tan Tock Seng Hospital said in a statement over the weekend that Ello Ed Bello was found to have allegedly posted two other "offensive" comments on religion on his Google Plus page.

"Mr. Bello has confirmed that he had made these three posts," the hospital officials claimed.

Bello earlier claimed his Facebook account was hacked when a post wishing Singaporeans to die circulated.

"Now the Singaporeans are losers in their own country. We take their jobs, their women, their future and soon evict all SG losers out of their own country," the post reads.

The nurse had only joined the institution in October 2014 and was only on probation when he was suspended from his nursing duties for the posts.

"These comments were highly irresponsible and offensive to Singapore and religion. They have distressed members of the public and our hospital staff," the hospital said.

"His conduct goes against our staff values of respect, professionalism and social responsibility," it added.

Following the start of an investigation on Bello, Singaporeans demanded his dismissal from the hospital.
