MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino said he considers 2015 a “pivotal year” for his administration, as he welcomed ambassadors from different countries yesterday.
“Excellencies, there is no better way to mark the start of the ‘Visit the Philippines’ year than with your visit. We welcome you to the Philippines, a country home to a creative, dynamic and talented people; a nation that has, for the past five years, shown the world that reform and integrity work; and a place of genuine warmth and friendship,” Aquino said in his message.
He added that this year is also a time “to strengthen the gains of reform, explore avenues of cooperation and likewise reinforce our ties with partners and friends both at home and abroad.”
Aquino said that the country had already welcomed the first batch of delegates for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and would continue welcoming guests and dignitaries from all over the world.
He invited the foreign diplomats to visit the country’s tourist spots during their stay here.
“It is my hope that you will find the time to unwind for a while, to experience the hospitality and generosity that my people are known for, and to personally discover why it is indeed more fun in the Philippines,” he said.
Seven resident and non-resident ambassadors-designate presented their credentials to the President.
For resident ambassadors-designate, first to present his letter of credence was Roberto Sebastian Bosh Estevez of Argentina, followed by Rolando Guevara Alvarado of Panama, Maria Cristina Theresia Derckx of the Netherlands and Martinus Nicolass Slabber of South Africa.
The presentation of credentials of non-resident ambassadors-designate to the Philippines, meanwhile, was led by Niranjan Man Singh Basnyat of Nepal, followed by Daniel Owassa of the Republic of Congo and Geoffrey Keating of Ireland.
All ambassadors presented their respective staff after a brief chat with the President.
